Heart-Shaped Waffles with Syrup & Edible Flowers
Alexandra | September 23, 2025
The waffle was warm, its edges crisp and golden, shaped like a heart and placed gently on a porcelain plate. Two tiny flowers rested on top, as if spring had stopped by for breakfast. The syrup glistened in the morning light, and the coffee steamed quietly beside it. A wicker basket held soft fabric and a knitted blanket, ready for a slow start. It wasn’t just a meal — it was a moment of softness, a pause wrapped in petals and warmth.
Ingredients:
- 200g plain flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- 2 eggs
- 250ml milk
- 60g melted butter (plus extra for greasing)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Syrup (maple or honey) for serving
- Edible flowers (e.g. elderflower, pansy, chamomile) for garnish
Instructions:
- Make the batter: In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, mix eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Combine wet and dry ingredients until smooth.
- Cook the waffles: Preheat waffle iron and lightly grease. Pour batter and cook until golden and crisp. Repeat with remaining batter.
- Serve: Place waffles on plates. Drizzle with syrup and decorate with edible flowers. Serve with frothy coffee, soft blankets, and blooming branches.
